Once in a while we have a customer who cannot open their QuickBooks POSs program. Most of the time, this is due to firewall issues. However, once in a rare while, you do get a QB POS database that has become corrupt. How can you tell if the database is corrupt?
Well, let’s start with how you can tell if it is not corrupt:
- If you can open the POS on the server workstation or any of the other POS client machines, then your database is not corrupt.
- Sometimes I have seen it where someone will try to open the POS from a client workstation and if they cannot, they assume that their database is corrupted. Normally, this is due to a firewall or connectivity issue.
- If connecting to the POS database from a client workstation, make sure the server workstation is in multi-user mode.
Perform the following steps on the server to find out if the database is corrupted:
- In windows explorer, browse to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX.0\DatabaseServer
- Find the QBDBMgrNxx.exe file and double-click on the file.
- The following window will pop up:

- Browse to your company file. For most people, it will be located in their folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX.0\Data\Company Name\qbpos.db
- Enter in the “Options:” box, “-F“
- Click “OK“.
- If your database is currupted, you will get a message stating this.
Otherwise, it will close and, if you can catch it before it closes, it will say, “Waiting for connections” at the end.
It doesn’t say that I have a corrupted database but data is missing and/or I still cannot open my file.
