Hey Peter here with BlackRock Business and today we are going to talk about copying departments in QuickBooks Point of Sale. I’m glad that you’ve joined us. First, I’m going to tell you to get on over to Facebook and join our QuickBooks Point of Sale group on Facebook. You could call it free tech support if you like, because if you’re having problems or wondering how to do things, people such as myself and other Point of Sale users will be there to answer your questions in a community format. So powerful! All right, let’s get to it. QuickBooks Point of Sale. We’re going to jump into the department list and here you can see I have a meager few departments and we’re going to be copying them. You, you might ask yourself, why would I want to copy a department that doesn’t make sense to me? Well, I will tell you, you can see here we’ve got margin and markup settings for an already created department and instead of entering new margin and markups for every single department, maybe you’re going to keep it standard for some departments, uh, such as maybe all your clothing will have the same markup and margin.

And so in that case you would just highlight your previously created department and you would hit copy. You can see here margin and markup are already set and all we have to do is change the name. So I’m going to change this to pants change my department code for Pants and here in Minnesota we don’t actually have tax on clothing cause we’re awesome. Sorry if you have to pay tax on clothing and your state, that’s a bummer. Uh, you do have to reset the tax code when you are copying. I don’t know why they didn’t allow that feature to copy. I hit save and boom, there we are. We’ve got pants and it has the same margin and markup as our other department that we just copied it from shirts. That’s it. Quick and easy.
