How to Use QuickBooks POS Connectivity Tool

Troubleshoot pos connectivityThe QuickBooks POS Connectivity Tool helps resolve:

Detailed Instructions

Important:Be sure you are logged in as a Windows Administrator before following the steps.

Restart QuickBooks POS

  1. From the Windows START search field, type services.msc and press enter.
  2. Find QBPOS Database Manager vXX ( latest version available ) from the list of services.
  3. Right-click the service and click STOP Note:If the service status is STOP, click START or simply RESTART the service.

Create a copy of the company file

Important:. Ensure to have a copy of your data before running the QuickBooks POS Connectivity Tool.

  1. Click the Windows button from the desktop and open the Computer window
  2. In the left window, navigate to the following location: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS vXX(latest version)
  3. Right-click the Data folder and choose Copy.
  4. Right-click any blank space on your desktop and choose Paste.

Download the QuickBooks POS Connectivity Tool

  1. Download QuickBooks POS Connectivity Tool.
  2. Save the file to the following location:
    • For 64-bit:C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks POS 11.0
    • For 32-bit:C:\Program File \Intuit\QuickBooks POS 11.0
  3. After the download completes, click RUN.
  4. The tool displays information about your computer and how it affects Point of Sale’s ability to open:
    QBPOS Install Type: If this is your primary installation, this should display Server Workstation. If it displaysClient Workstation, uninstall and reinstall Point of Sale again as a server workstation.
    QBPOS DB Service Status: This should display Running. If not, close all programs, reboot your computer, and run the tool again. Note: To return to the folder easily, right-click the Point of Sale icon and chooseOpen File Location.
    TCP/IP Protocol: This should display Enabled. If not, see theTroubleshooting TCP/IP Protocol link below.
    Windows Firewall Status: This should display Needed QBPOS Application exceptions defined in Windows Firewall in green. If it’s in red, see the Opening a port to configure the Point of Sale firewall links below.
    3-rd Party Firewall Status: This displays Not detected if you don’t have any other firewalls installed. If it displaysdetected, verify your internet security software isn’t configured to block Point of Sale. See thePoint of Sale firewall configuration link below for a list of everything that needs to be allowed access for Point of Sale to open properly. Note: This tool only detects firewalls from popular security companies. More obscure firewalls may not be detected here.
    QBPOS Database Info: The last Point of Sale file opened resides in this folder. If Startup Status displays anything other than Started, click Look Up Error Messagesfor steps to resolve startup issues.
    View Complete Database Log: A highly technical log detailing Point of Sale’s database activities. Useful when troubleshooting with a support respresentive or network technician.
    Ping Computers on Network: Use this to be sure you can see other computers on the network. Best used on a client workstation to ensure it can access the server.
    Test Connect: Use this to test the connection to your data file. Best used in a single computer environment, with a server workstation that’s having trouble connecting to itself. If the connection fails, see the Opening a port to configure the Point of Sale firewall link belowto be sure all needed files and folders are allowed through your internet security settings.
    Look Up Error Messages: Use this to look up solutions to startup issues listed under Startup Status.
    Verify Again: Use this to refresh the tool after making a settings change on your computer.

Troubleshooting QuickBooks POS Connectivity – TCP/IP Protocol

  1. Click the Windows Start button, type Control and press Enter.
  2. Click Network and Sharing Center and select Manage Network Connections.
  3. Right-click any enabled Local Area Connection and select Properties.
  4. From the Networking tab, be sure Internet Protocols TCP/IPv6 and TCP/IPv4 are selected.
    • If not selected, select them both and click OK.
    • If already selected, clear the checkboxes and reselect them. Click OK
    • If internet Protocol(TCP/IPv6) and (TCP/IPv4) are not listed, please consult a network or other computer technician to correct the issue

Opening QuickBooks POS firewall ports

  1. Follow Open a port in Windows Firewall
  2. Grant the following files access through these firewall ports: 8040, 443, 80, 2638, 46225, and 46228
