Error 176125
This error can be followed by one of several messages.
Why this is happening
Possible causes:
- There may be network connectivity issues between the Point of Sale server and client machines.
- Firewall software may be blocking access or dual firewalls may be functioning.
- The Intuit Entitlement Service is not running or is damaged.
- An exception inside the Entitlement Client folder could not be resolved by Point of Sale.
How to fix it
Version 9 and 10
Windows 7 or Vista
One or more of these steps may resolve the issue. Try opening Point of Sale after each step.
- Update Point of Sale to the most current release at all workstations, starting with the server. The latest update for this version resolves this issue in most cases.
- Restart the computer and open Point of Sale.
- Make sure you are logged in to Windows as an Administrator and clear the contents of the Entitlement Client folder:
- Right-click the Windows Logo button and select Open Windows Explorer.
- Click Organize and select Folder and Search options.
- Click the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders and clear the checkbox for Hide protected system operating files.
- Click Yes on the warning and click OK.
- Navigate in the left window to the location: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0. To navigate, click the arrow symbol next to each folder listed.
- Right-click the first file in this folder and select Delete. Click Yes and repeat for each file in the v6.0folder.
- Open Point of Sale and register if prompted.
- Configure firewall applications to allow for Point of SaleNote: While the Point of Sale server may be working without error, if a firewall on the server is blocking incoming messages from your client, you will receive this error on client workstations.Configuring McAfee Personal Firewall

One or more of these steps may resolve the issue. Try opening Point of Sale after each step.
- Update Point of Sale to the most current release at all workstations, starting with the server. The latest update for this version resolves this issue in most cases.
- Restart the computer and open Point of Sale.
- Make sure you’re logged into Windows as an Administrator and download the 176125 repair tool.
- Click Save when prompted and save the file to your Windows desktop.
- Double-click POS176125.exe on your desktop and follow the onscreen instructions in the wizard. Select your version of Point of Sale on the initial screen.
- When a client workstation is receiving this error, ping the server computer to test network connectivity:Note: In Windows 7 and Vista, the IP Address is also referred to as the IPv4 Address.
- Get the computer name and IP Address of the Point of Sale server computer:
- On the Point of Sale server computer, click the Windows Start button and select Run (In Windows 7 and Vista, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.
- In the Open field, enter cmd and click OK. A DOS window opens.
- At the prompt in the DOS window, type ipconfig /all, and press Enter on your keyboard.
- Under the Windows IP Configuration heading, locate the Host Name. This is the name of the Point of Sale server computer. Write this name down.
- Under the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection heading, locate and write down the IP Address. This is the IP address of the Point of Sale server computer.
- Close the DOS window.
- Verify (ping) the IP address from the Point of Sale client computer:
- On the Point of Sale client computer, click the Windows Start button and select Run (In Windows 7 and Vista, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run).
- In the Open field, enter cmd and click OK. A DOS window opens.
- In the DOS window, type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address you wrote down. Press Enter on your keyboard.
- The DOS window should display: pinging
[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] with 32 bytes of data, where [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] is the IP address you entered. Ping responses are:
- Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, if it successfully found the IP address of the Point of Sale server computer.
- Request timed out, if it can’t find the Point of Sale server computer. Contact an IT specialist to determine why the network is not accessible.
- Close the DOS window. If the ping command successfully located the IP address of the Point of Sale server computer, continue with the next step.
- Verify (ping) the hostname from the client computer:
- On the Point of Sale client computer, click the Windows Start button and select Run (In Windows 7 and Vista, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run).
- In the Open field, enter cmd and click OK. A DOS window opens.
- In the DOS window, type ping computer_name. For computer_name, use the computer name previously noted. Press Enter on your keyboard. This command forces the computer name to be resolved to the IP address.
- The display should read: pinging hostname [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] with 32 bytes of data, where [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] is the address that was resolved to (associated with) the computer name. Ping responses are:
- Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, if it successfully resolved the host name with the IP Address of the Point of Sale server computer.
- Request timed out, if it cannot resolve the hostname of the Point of Sale server computer. If it cannot resolve the hostname, contact BlackRock.
- Configure any firewall applications (for example: McAfee Security Center, Norton Internet Security Center, Norton 360, Zone Alarm, AVG, etc.) to allow for Point of Sale components. While the Point of Sale Server may be working without error, if the firewall on the server is blocking incoming messages from the client, you will receive this error on client computers.
