QuickBooks POS: Inventory Settings and Preferences

 

Today we’re going to talk about Inventory settings and preferences.

Let’s begin:

  1. On your “File” menu go to “Preferences” then select “Company”.
  2. On the left side section of Company Preferences, select “Inventory”.
  3. We have 3 settings on our Inventory Preferences.

    1. Inventory Item Pictures – if you turn this “On” it will allow you to add pictures to each one of your items. This will make you identify easily your items.
    2. Item Number Sequencing – if you turn this “On” and you are creating a new item or editing an old item your number item will start to the number you choose. For example, the last item number on your item is 1000 and you want to start your new item from 2000 and above you can do it by turning this on. (Remember that your item number is the number that comes out on the barcode or the price tag)
    3. Item Number Sequencing – if you want a certain vendors or certain groups of items to be in different number area on your item list you might just want to turn this “On”.
    4. Reorder Reminders – this setting wants to know whether your reorder reminders are “Available quantity” or “On hand quantity”. Available quantity is your Default.
  4. Unit of Measure in your Inventory Preferences.

    1. You can Add your Unit of Measure here, just click the “Add” button on the screen. (Example of Unit of Measures are, Case, Each, Pounds, Grams, Meter, Etc.)
    2. Turn on the Multiple Units of Measure it will enable you to sell your items each or in boxes.
    3. Display Unit of Measure this will enable you to always display a unit of measure column in your documents and lists.
