Reversing a receipt taken with a credit card and re-ringing it would actually get you three sets of credit card fees.
To avoid getting these three different transaction fees:
- Make a copy of the messed-up receipt.
- Put the receipt on hold and go back to the original receipt
- Do a return to account. Return Everything. Then use the account button to transfer it to the account
- Go back to the held copy receipt and correct the error.
- Then charge it to the account.
Tips for specific scenarios:
- If the customer was charged too much, put the money back on account and re-ring it. This would also have an extra money on account and this will be a great reason for them to come back in the store and bring something up in that credit towards it. Another way is to synchronize the account from QuickBooks Point of Sale with QuickBooks Accounting and then cut them a check for the credit and mail it to them.
- If you have rung up the wrong item that is cheaper than the correct item, you could give a discount to the new receipt. Giving a discount on that item will reduce the price of the receipt down to the price the customer paid.
Overview:
- Find the messed up receipt, make a copy. Put it on hold, then you would go back to the messed up receipt. Do a return to account, and then go back to the copied receipt. Fix the errors and charge that to account.
